What to do

  • Spend the nights in Mina.
  • Stone all three jamarat each day after midday: the small one, then the middle one, then Jamrat al-ʿAqabah, seven pebbles each, saying Allahu akbar with each.
  • Stop and make du’a after the first and the second, facing the qiblah, for a long time. Do not stop after the third.
  • Leave on the 12th before sunset, or stay and stone on the 13th as well. Both are allowed.

Koran Al-Baqara 2:203 Übersetzung: A. S. F. Bubenheim & N. Elyas 1

Why we do it

After stoning the first jamrah, Ibn ʿUmar would move forward to level ground, stand facing the qiblah for a long time and make du'a with his hands raised. He did the same after the middle jamrah, then stoned Jamrat al-ʿAqabah without stopping there, and said: This is how I saw the Prophet ﷺ do it.

Überliefert von Sālim, from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar Sahih al-Buchari 1751 Sahih (authentisch) 2

Many pilgrims throw their pebbles and rush away. The Sunnah is to stop, step aside from the crowd, and stand in du’a for a long time. These are some of the least crowded moments of du’a in all of hajj. Do not miss them.

Your heart today

The great days are behind you, and tiredness sets in. This is where many people let go. Hold on. These are days of remembering Allah, as the verse says. Keep your tongue busy with dhikr, guard your temper in the crowds, and keep asking.

Du’as for today

Good in this world and the next

Wann In tawaf, between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone. It is also one of the best du'as at any time.

UmschriftRabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā hasanatan wa fil-ākhirati hasanatan wa qinā 'adhāban-nār.

BedeutungOur Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
